How To Make Cantaloupe Soup
I like a good fruit soup!. It seems most suited for summer as fruit soups are typically cold, but they can be made for year round consumption. For the simplest of fruit soups, one must only turn to melon. A cantaloupe will make a soup that is very tasty and it is simple to make. Peel, cut into chunks and blend. A honeydew will offer the same delicious opportunity, too. So, here is how to make cantaloupe soup.
How To Make Cantaloupe Soup – The Cantaloupe
Dealing with cantaloupe is the toughest part because you have to peel it, de-seed it and cut it up. Of course, you can probably buy it already cut up at the store. If you can, go for it. The most important part of cantaloupe soup is making sure you select the ripest cantaloupe you can find. Ripe and sweet make great soup! Ask your green grocer to help you choose the melon. I believe in the smell test. Stick your nose to the melon and give a sniff. If it smells fruity, go for it! After that, there really isn’t much to it.
How To Make Cantaloupe Soup – The Extras
Once you have the cantaloupe in chucks, put it in the blender and get ready to frappe the dickens out of it. First though, consider an addition of sugar or honey as needed. It is up to you, but a little extra sweetness is nice. Also, consider the addition of ¼ to ½ cup of white wine to give it a little added flavor. A Gewürztraminer is a good choice here. It has a little tartness and lots of different fruity notes from green apple to cherry. These do well with cantaloupe and add nicely to the soup. If wine isn’t your thing, skip it – no big deal. You could use water, apple juice or nothing.
How To Make Cantaloupe Soup – The Blend
Once everything is in the blender, whip it good. Blitz it all into a soup, pour it into a bowl and chill it in the fridge. You can garnish with some chopped strawberries or blackberries or even just a dollop of whipped cream. YUM!
