Creating Something New.
If we want to create something new we need information from which to build new ideas. Some of the simplest information we can use to create something new in cooking is cultural information. Simply learning about different cuisines gives us new perspective that, when applied to the things we already know, can be used to support our innovation efforts.
HOw Innovation Works!
That is how innovation works – taking facts that are new to us, applying them to our current situation by making some new connections, creating a new idea and then bringing that idea to life.
It Is About Stimulus
Stimulus could be as simple as a recipe, but going deeper into a new cuisine as a whole will bring not only a new perspective, but one that is richer and more complete. The richer the stimulus, the richer the innovation potential! The slide show below is just one example of the types of information that could be used to create something new. Of course, facts for innovation can come from many places and can be presented in many ways.
The authors do a very good job laying out tons of related facts. These facts can be used to create new ideas and bring new ideas to life. It isn’t just the foods mentioned that are usable. The cultural and historical bits are usable, too. If the cultural buzz is about street food, this, in and of itself, could be used to create a theme under which to innovate. Perhaps even the history can reveal a different way forward.
More Information Means More New Connections
The more new information allows us to make more connections that have not previously been made before. These new connections between the new facts and what we already know are the foundation for creating something new and getting to big WOW moments. This is not just true for innovation in the food world. The same idea can be applied to any innovation effort we are making.
