Yesterday, we spoke to our friendly resident bartender, Groover, and asked him a few questions about the
business of bartending. Today, we asked him to create a Valentines Cocktail recipe for us to share with our readers, and he did not disappoint. Keep reading to find out more and get the recipe!
The Inspiration
The basis was a White Russian, and I left only the basis intact. Whole milk, white spirit and a sweetening agent. When I thought about Valentines Day, I immediately thought red was my point of entry, but thinking about Valentines Day made me realize it can also be a day you try new things with new people you like. So white became my new entry point – considering it a blank piece of paper you can fill in with the person you love. This piece will eventually become more and more filled which brought me to the red ice; dilution causes the transition from white to pink. (and if you wait long enough red – though that’s not recommended :). Tequila represents the heart (also agave kind of looks like a heart). The pomegranate seeds are meant both as an aphrodisiac and complementary to the grenadine ice. A bit of warm citrus to spice it up, and there you have it.

- Silicon ice cube mold
- A boston shaker and strainer
- A fine mesh strainer
- A couple of large tumblers
- Love and attention
- 90 ml grendine syrup
- 1 teaspoon of shaved dark chocolate
- 1 pomegranate
- 1 orange
- Regular ice
- 60 ml of Tequila Blanco
- 15 ml of Orgeat Syrup
- 60 ml of Fresh Whole Milk
- Pre-mix 400 ml of tap water to 90 ml of grenadine
- Pour this into silicon ice cube mold and store in the freezer for about 4 hours until it's nice and solid
- Make sure ice is very solid before use, otherwise it will turn pink as soon as you pour the mixture over the ice
- Pour all ingredients into a shaker with regular ice and shake vigorously for about 8 - 10 seconds
- Repeat this but with no ice (Dry Shake) to increase the froth of the drink
- Double strain this mixture over the grenadine ice filled tumbler
- Twist a large orange zest over the drink and discard
- Garnish with about 10 pomegranate seeds and grate a little of the dark chocolate over the top
- Serve with no straws and a red rose for that one person.
