Homemade Salad Dressing
There is a lot to be said for salad. Whether it is a grilled salad or garden fresh, salads are a great way to way to get nutritious vegetables into our diet. Of course, a salad topped with just enough tasty homemade dressing is even better. Making a homemade dressing couldn’t be simpler. With all the herbs and spices available, you can bring so many different flavors to your salads.
This is true both for vinaigrettes and creamy dressing. Once you choose an acid and oil for vinaigrettes or a creamy base, like yogurt, for a creamy dressing you are half way there. It is just a matter of being inspired by an ingredient or cuisine and mixing it up. A big benefit of homemade dressing is that you can make exactly the dressing you want. There is nothing wrong with the bottled stuff at the store, but with homemade dressings you can make it personalized and exactly to your tastes and desires. This is one place in cooking where it literally is as easy as mixing something up and tasting it until you are happy.
Homemade Salad Dressing – Not Just for Salads
One thing to consider is that homemade salad dressings are not just for salads. A good vinaigrette or creamy dressing is a welcome addition to a nice piece of chicken or beef or other protein source. Think of them as simple sauces! Another use for a creamy homemade salad dressing is as a dip. They are perfect for a crudite or, if made thick enough, as a spread for crackers.
