It is that time of year again – when pumpkin spice everything comes to haunt us. Everything from lattes to baby wipes and, as I understand it, even twinkies. It isn’t below me to get in on this hot craze, but to really deliver on it, one must first make pumpkin spice mix. Sure, we could go purchase one, but when we make pumpkin spice mix at home it truly is the pumpkin spice mix we want. And it is really easy. For the ill informed, there is no pumpkin in pumpkin spice – just spices. WOW moment here!

I know how upsetting this can be when folks find out that there is no pumpkin added when you make pumpkin spice mix. But then is seems redundant to put pumpkin in a spice mix that is for spicing up pumpkin (and other goodies). After all, you don’t want to overdo the pumpkin impact. It might be too strong. - 4 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 1.5 tsp ground clove
- 1 tsp cardamom
- Place all the spices in a bowl and mix well with a fork or whisk.
- Store in an air tight container.
- Mix will stay good for about 6 months. Mix up the spices as you like.
