Okay, so pumpkin pie isn’t really effervescent. But our love for it certainly is! As far back as I can remember, important family occasions have been seasoned with some kind of pumpkin pie. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas – even the occasional birthday party. And when I see pumpkins growing in the pumpkin patch in my town, I just know that good times with good company are on their way.
The thing with such a classic Fall dessert (or any beloved staple dish) is that everyone has a very particular way of making – and enjoying – it. Which can make it tricky to whip up a dish for a big crowd of people who all have their own treasured family recipe. When it comes to pumpkin pie, some insist on a home baked crust, while others have their secret blend of spices they’ve honed and crafted over the years, and still others want to top it all off with either homemade whipped cream, a can of the cheap stuff or in one particular case that I know of, ice cream!
However, these moments shouldn’t be seen as a stressful situation in which we try to accommodate everyone’s different tastes (which is pretty much utterly impossible) but rather, an opportunity to experiment and create a new history, here and now.
For breakfast, lunch, dinner and all the meals in between, here are 10 pumpkin pie recipes (or a certain reimagined version of the stuff) that you can serve your household – friends, family and welcomed guests – this upcoming Fall. Or better yet, use them as starting points and create your own unique, delicious pumpkin pie recipe for the years to come! Whether that’s as simple as how you serve it (i.e. in a traditional pie plate, a mason jar or glass or even on pumpkin plant leaves) or as complex as refining a pumpkin pie spice blend or as a particular family member of mine does, sprinkling a secret ingredient like cinnamon over the top of the entire pie before finishing it off with homemade vanilla whipped cream, it’s totally up to you.
