We talk a lot on this site about baking tools and cooking equipment because – let’s face it – you can’t successfully create culinary masterpieces if you don’t have the basic tools needed to function in the kitchen. With that said, there’s some pretty odd cooking utensils out there that maybe aren’t such necessities. In fact, it’s a bit of a tossup as to whether they could actually help in the kitchen at all. Here’s the most bizarre baking tools we’ve found around the globe. What do you think? Resourceful or ridiculous?
- Egg Cuber – Did you ever really, really want to make your hard boiled eggs cube shaped? Yeah, neither did we. But if you ever do, you can use this handy egg cuber. You hard boil an egg like you normally would, peel off the shell, and while it’s still hot, place it in the cuber. In just a few minutes.
- Meatball Maker – Not JUST used for making meatballs, this round scissor-like utensil is also good for shaping melon balls, creating the perfect sized and shaped cookies, and – obviously – making perfectly round meatballs.
- Muffin Toppers – These are sort of an oddity, but they’re actually pretty functional little devices. These silicone toppers pop over your muffin sheet to mold cooked muffins into shapes that are conducive to decorating (plus, they create fun textures that look really cool).
- Taco Shell Mold – Did you ever wonder how restaurants got perfectly shaped hard taco shells? They use a mold, of course! Just pop a couple of corn tortillas into the mold, and dip into a deep fryer or fry in a saucepan to get perfectly shaped taco shells at home.
- Corn Kernel Cutter – Forget corn on the cob. This gadget actually slices those corn kernels right off the cob with no issue. Made out of stainless steel, just slide the metal circle over the top of the ear of corn, and use the handles on either side to sheer off fresh kernels.
Looking for a utensil that makes a perfect ball shape that can be made in smaller or larger sizes
I have a bizarre looking what I think is a cooking gadget from my mother. Is there a way I can send you a picture and you can shine some light?
Hi Jean,
Sure. Send the pic to me here… support@theculinaryexchange.com. I will have a look and see what I can tell you.
Best Regards,
