How To Make Waldorf Salad
Let’s get old school! If you have never heard of the Waldorf Salad and don’t know how to make Waldorf Salad, this is definitely the post for you. I must say though, I would be surprised to hear that someone didn’t know about the Waldorf Salad. After all, a mix of apple, celery and mayonnaise that turned into an instant hit is certainly big news. I guess there wasn’t that much happening in the culinary world in 1896. Plus, have you ever mixed apple, celery and mayonnaise and eaten it? It is kind of weird.
How To Make Waldorf Salad – Apple, Celery And Mayonnaise
The truth is that this How To Make Waldorf Salad post could end right now. The classic recipe is apple, celery and mayonnaise -use a ratio of the 3 that you like. The classic, as Oscar of the Waldorf-Astoria inspired it, had no bells and whistles. When folks, like me, make Waldorf Salad with added stuff it is not really Waldorf Salad. But, I like to think that the additions help the salad taste great and not, well, weird.
How To Make Waldorf Salad – Apple, Celery, Mayonnaise and More
For my Waldorf Salad I like a Pink Lady Apple. A mix of apples is also a good idea. No change to the celery or mayonnaise (use your favorite). The additions include walnut which is just delicious with apples. Walnuts are a great, but late addition to the salad – sorry Oscar. If it wasn’t the walnuts, the dried cranberry or other dried fruit might make Oscar roll over in the grave, but I doubt it. He was credited with a lot of signature dishes at the Waldorf-Astoria so I like to think he relishes in the updates. Suffice to say, the addition of dried cranberries brings some nice added tartness, sweetness and texture to the salad.
